The Purple Mile, a walk to increase domestic violence awareness, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Oct. 3, at the Rattigan Student Center at the Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.

"Domestic abuse statistics are frightening," said Vickie Hayden, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Sexual Assault Prevention and Response victim advocate. "We have to say 'no more' to this. Twenty individuals every minute are being physically abused by an intimate partner, and every day 20,000 phone calls are made to domestic violence hotlines in the U.S."

Several Team McConnell volunteers and WSU alumni will give inspirational speeches to kick off the event.

"We hope that people come out to spread awareness and become educated on these problems," said Lynette Turner, 22nd ARW Sexual Assault and Response coordinator. "It's an opportunity for individuals to stand up and say no more. No more domestic abuse. No more sexual assaults."

Victim service professionals will be on hand to ensure victim care is available to all.
