MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --   The 931st Air Refueling Group intramural golf team is scheduled for a championship rematch Friday against a team representing the 22nd Logistics Readiness Squadron at Auburn Hills Golf Course in Wichita, Kan.

Lt. Col. Greg Harney and Col. (retired) Ron Johnston are set to defend the title they and their 931st teammates earned after defeating the 22nd LRS team in 2008. Colonel Harney, a Reserve KC-135 Stratotanker pilot assigned to the 931st ARG, was also part of the 931st team that finished first in the McConnell AFB intramural league in 2004.

Tech. Sgt. Darren Horton, a KC-135 boom operator, has helped managed this year's team in the absence of long-time 931st golf team member Master Sgt. John "Tex" Austin, who deployed after the start of the 2009 season. Sergeant Horton also was on the 2008 and 2004 championship teams. The level of talent on this year's team is "pretty strong," he said, "right there with the team we won with last year."

The team's strong season play earned a bye in the first round of the end-of-season tournament. They defeated a team representing the 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron to setup a championship rematch against 22nd LRS. Other Airmen who contributed to the team's success this season includes Col. Edsel "Archie" Frye Jr., the 931st ARG commander, Senior Master Sgt. Diane Hiebert and Lt. Col. Randy Brink.

The McConnell AFB intramural leagues are organized by personnel from the 22nd Force Support Squadron. They are scheduled to award the 2009 championship golf trophy to the winner of Friday's match during the following week.
