Twenty-five 931st Airmen receive CCAF degrees Published Dec. 15, 2013 By Master Sgt. Brannen Parrish 931st Air Refueling Group Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- The 931st Air Refueling Group held a graduation ceremony for its newest Community College of the Air Force degree recipients, Dec. 15. Twenty-five 931st ARG members earned an Associate in Applied Science during the last term. They range in rank from senior airman to second lieutenant. Airmen are automatically enrolled in CCAF upon completion of basic military training and assignment to an Air Force specialty. Eligibility requirements for a CCAF degree include 64 semester hours completed through an accredited school. Sixteen of those hours must be completed in-residence through BMT, coursework completed at an affiliated school, or through internship credit in an Air Force specialty. Tech. Sgt. Joe Johnson, an intelligence analyst from the 931st Operations Support Squadron, is one of the 25 Airmen who received his CCAF degree. Though Johnson has already holds a bachelor's degree, he said he looked forward to receiving what he considers a validation of combined military and civilian education. "I think the best aspect of CCAF is the way it takes accredited military training and transfers it into college credits," said Johnson. "The process of combining technical and academic aspects validates our training and experience, and challenges us to succeed in the classroom." Tech. Sgt. John Bui, boom operator, 18th Air Refueling Squadron, received his second CCAF degree during the ceremony. "Having that on my EPR definitely helps. If I go to a board against others who don't have their CCAF it sets me apart because it shows I've completed Enlisted Professional Military Education," said Bui.
