The 931st Maintenance Squadron held an assumption of command ceremony, in which Maj. Justin Franklin took command of the squadron April 1, 2017, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan.

Franklin came to the unit from the 513th Maintenance Squadron, 513th Air Control Group, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.  Franklin’s ability to balance family and work was one of the reasons Fowler selected Franklin to lead the 931 MXS.

“After Major Schloss left, I promised my Airmen that I’d find the best commander I could find, and I really think I found that commander in Major Franklin,” Fowler said.

The Citizen Airmen of the 931 MXS aid their active-duty counterparts, the 22nd Maintenance Squadron, with vital contributions to McConnell’s worldwide air refueling mission.  In addition to sharing responsibilities with maintenance of the KC-135R Stratotanker, the Airmen of the 931 MXS will soon be responsible for maintaining the KC-46A Pegasus.

The weight of this responsibility was not lost on Franklin, who in addition to thanking his family and Fowler for his new assignment, took time to thank the Airmen of the 931 MXS.

"I want to thank the Airmen of the 931 MXS. The ones who always raise their hand. The one who always step up and volunteer for the job and the many future deployments ahead.  I thank you,” he said.

Franklin’s command will be part the growth of the 931 MXG, including the addition of 200 personnel to maintain the KC-46, which is expected to arrive later this year.
