MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – The McConnell Tax Center is scheduled to assist Airmen, dependents, retirees and all eligible parties with filing their 2017 taxes for the ninth year in a row.

Because the tax center provides services free of charge, the volunteers are a critical part of the program.

The Tax Center is accepting volunteers through Jan. 16, and no prior experience is necessary. Volunteers will receive free, certified Internal Revenue Service tax training, where they will learn tax deductions and exemptions from experts. Volunteers must be able to commit eight hours per week.

“The success of the tax program relies heavily on the volunteers and the commanders who support it,” said Tech. Sgt. Joy Hollonquest, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Tax center noncommissioned officer in charge. “Volunteering will help ensure Team McConnell, to include retirees, dependents and civilian counterparts, is taken care of.”

Last tax season, the Tax Center saved its customers more than $375,000 in tax preparation costs and helped taxpayers claim a total of $2 million in refunds.
