931st to stand up security forces squadron Published Sept. 27, 2011 By Brannen Parrish 931st ARG Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- The 931st Air Refueling Group will stand up a security forces squadron during an assumption of command ceremony here, Oct. 1 at 1. p.m. Maj. Edward T. Hunn will become the first 931st Security Forces Squadron commander. Hunn recently returned to the 931st ARG after a deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan where he spent six months as the airfield Provost Marshall. The official activation date for the 931st Security Forces Squadron is Sept. 30 but the ceremony was scheduled to coincide with the unit training assembly. According to Master Sgt. William Stockwell, Security Forces Action Officer and Squad Leader, 931st Security Forces Squadron, the 931st SFS will provide the group commander with a large base of qualified security and law enforcement specialists. The 931st SFS will have specialists in the field of antiterrorism, force protection, investigations and information security. "The 931st Security Forces Squadron's primary duty is to train for deployments to augment security at diverse deployed locations around the globe," Stockwell said. According to Hunn, the greatest challenge for the unit will be recruiting experienced NCOs to ensure training requirements are met. "It's a unique experience to get to start a unit. We've tried to start off on the right foot by recruiting good NCO's to train our young Airmen," said Hunn. "It takes about one year to get Airmen qualified in what is a very broad skill set. We're looking for good NCO's and senior NCO's with deployment experience to train our Airmen." The assumption of command ceremony will take place in the second floor auditorium of building 1185.
