MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --  Tech. Sgt. Shawn Birmingham is a Valley Center, Kan., native who was in the Air National Guard for 16 years before joining the 931st Air Refueling Group three years ago.

Unit: 931st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron

Air Force job: Pneudraulic Systems Specialist

Civilian job: I work in the quality assurance department of an aircraft wheel and brake service center for Goodrich Corporation.

Education: I recently completed my CCAF degree attending Butler County Community College here at McConnell AFB. I plan to continue my Liberal Arts degree.

Favorite way to relax: Working on my cars, when they don't need it.

People are usually surprised to learn that I: had a Division I basketball offer.

Most Influential person in my life: My wife and kids are the most influential. They influence all my important decisions...other than the law.
