For the second year in a row, the 931st Air Refueling Group has taken top golf honors at McConnell Air Force Base. Senior Master Sgt. Diane Hiebert and Tech. Sgt. Darren Horton represented the 931st's intramural team Wednesday, accepting trophies for repeating as the base's intramural champions.

Lt. Col. Greg Harney and Col. (retired) Ron Johnston defended the title during a championship match against a 22nd Logistics Readiness Squadron team on Aug. 28 at Auburn Hills Golf Course in Wichita, Kan. They birdied all but two of their first nine holes and defeated their 22nd LRS opponents after just 11 holes in match play. Both Harney and Johnston were part of the 931st teams that won previous championships in 2007 and 2004.

Sergean Horton, a KC-135 boom operator, has helped managed this year's team in the absence of long-time 931st golf team manager Master Sgt. John "Tex" Austin, who deployed after the start of the 2009 season. Sergeant Horton also was on the 2008 and 2004 championship teams.

The team's strong play this season earned a bye in the first round of the end-of-season tournament. They defeated a team representing the 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron to setup a championship rematch against 22nd LRS. Other Airmen who contributed to the team's success this season includes Col. Edsel "Archie" Frye Jr., the 931st ARG commander, Senior Master Sgt. Diane Hiebert and Lt. Col. Randy Brink.

The McConnell AFB intramural leagues are organized by personnel from the 22nd Force Support Squadron.
