Congratulations Chief

Chief Master Sgt. Don Askren completed his final KC-135 Stratotanker mission here Thursday. He is scheduled to soon retire as the chief boom operator of the 18th Air Refueling Squadron, the flying unit of the 931st Air Refueling Squadron.

Airmen from throughout the 931st ARG were at the flightline here to congratulate Chief Askren when he landed and to watch him be soaked in water after stepping off the KC-135, a final-flight custom. Among those who helped spray the chief down was his wife, Senior Master Sgt. Tammy Askren from the 931st Civil Engineer Squadron.

Both Chief and Sergeant Askren are Air Reserve Technicians who carry dual status working as full-time civil service employees and as Reservists performing the same job in an Air Force Reserve unit. They are also charter members of the 931st ARG who have helped build the Group since it was started here in the mid-1990's.
