Winter season brings unique safety concerns Published Nov. 22, 2013 By Master Sgt. Brannen Parrish 931st Air Refueling Group Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- The 931st Air Refueling Group Safety Office notified members today that "Safe 'N Sound All Year Round" push that will run into 2014. The Air Force Ground Safety Holiday/Winter campaign kicked off Nov. 22 - Jan. 2. "Another holiday and winter season is upon us," said Master Sgt. Felicia Sanders, 931st ARG Ground Safety Manager, "The seasonal activities and celebrations that we participate in all have unique risks. Be aware of these risks and preparing to the best of our abilities helps keep everyone 'Safe 'N Sound'." Each week 931st ARG Safety and the 22nd Air Refueling Wing Safety offices will outline a campaign topic for members to keep in mind over the season. The week one topic is, "Travelling/Driving." With increased traffic from the Thanksgiving Holiday, 931st Safety is reminding Airmen to winterize their vehicles and remain alert as roadways will likely experience increased congestion, and be impacted by winter precipitation. Rain and below freezing temperatures could result in iced roads. Snow and other precipitation are other factors that create driving hazards. The 931st ARG Safety Office also reminds drivers to avoid driving fatigue by getting enough rest and planning prior to attending celebrations with friends and family, or taking long road trips as driving while fatigued can be as deadly as driving while intoxicated.
