VA Open House
Col. Mark S. Larson, 931st Air Refueling Group Commander and Col. Paul R. Wietbrock, 931st ARG Deputy Commander, speak with Francisco Vazquez, director, Robert J. Dole Veterans Administration Medical Center during the hospital's 3rd Annual Open House, Dec. 11. Angel Tree
Col. Mark S. Larson, 931st Air Refueling Group Commander, places the final bow atop the group's Angel Tree, Dec. 9. The 931st ARG is accepting nominations for unit reservists who need assistance making the holiday special for their families. Nominees must be confidentially provided to squadron commanders. Squadron commanders will provide vetted names to Chief Master Sgt. Kathleen Lowman on Friday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. Nominees will be assigned a number that will be placed upon the Angel Tree. Members of the McConnell Community who are looking to assist a Reserve family can pick up a number from the Angel Tree starting from Dec. 14-20 and purchase the requested gifts. An E-4B from the 55th Wing, Offutt AFB, Neb. receives fuel from a KC-135 Stratotanker operated by the 931st Air Refueling Group, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., during a night refueling Dec. 5. The E-4B serves as the National Airborne Operations Center for the president and secretary of defense. In case of national emergency or destruction of ground command control centers, the E-4B provides a survivable, command, control and communications center to direct U.S. forces, execute emergency war orders and coordinate actions by civil authorities. Col. Mark S. Larson, 931st Air Refuelin Group Commander visited with KSN News anchor Mark Davidson at the KSN television studio in Downtown Wichita, Nov. 13. Larson answered Davidson's questions about the relationships between Air Force Reserve Airmen and active duty Airmen at McConnell Air Force Base, the connection of trust that exists between aircrew and maintainers and the cost-effective use of flight simulators. A KC-135 Stratotanker receives fuel from another KC-135 prior to practicing emergency breakaways over the Pacific Ocean, Nov. 2. A KC-135 Stratotanker is serviced under a rainbow on the flightline of Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Nov. 2. The aircraft is flown and maintained by the 18th Air Refueling Squadron and the 931st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron from McConnell Air Force Base, Kan.
