Pvt. Mathews at Kaw Pow Wow, August 2009

U.S. Army Pvt. Skyler Mathews waits for the beat of the drum inside the dance circle during his tribe's annual pow wow near Kaw City, Okla., in August 2009. Pvt. Mathews is an infantryman in the Army National Guard and member of the Kaw Nation, a sovereign Native American tribe headquarted in Kaw City. Like its home state of Kansas, the 931st Air Refueling Group draws its identity from the proud Kanza people of the Kaw Nation. The tribe's roach has become a symbol of the 931st ARG and "Kanza" is the official call sign assigned to 931st flying missions. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jason Schaap)
