Operation Arctic Care 2009

Lt. Col. Cheryl Hooper said she felt immersed in the culture of Alaknuk, Alaska, a small village she and a team of other military medical personnel were sent to in support of Operation Arctic Care. The annual exercise provides health care to underserved residents of rural Alaska. Native dancing (seen here) is part of the Alakanuk heritage that villagers want to preserve. (Courtesy photo)
