2009 Airmen of the Year
Two boom operators and a historian were selected as the 931st Air Refueling Group's 2009 Airmen of the Year. Selected were Master Sgt. John "Tex" Austin (center) as Staff Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, Tech. Sgt. Scott Gaitley (on left) as NCO of the Year, and recently-promoted Staff Sgt. Gregery Brashier as Airman of the Year. Sergeant Gaitley is the 931st ARG historian. Sergeant's Austin and Brashier are assigned to the 18th Air Refueling Squadron, the 931st's flying unit. 2017 Military Wingman Family Day
The 931st Air Refueling Wing 2017 Military Wingman Family Day is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan.This is a day that the Air Force and McConnell AFB has set aside to focus on the Airman, and comradery. The concept of having a wingman goes all the way back to World War I when the armed forces started using planes in combat. Both the Allies and Axis air forces used the concept of never going up alone into dog fight.
